John and I moved here in August of 1998 and we loved this city. We moved along to Denver, Colorado in May of 2007 but it was a difficult decision to make because there was still a lot to love about this Texas town.
Austin is a beautiful city at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country. It has plenty of trees, flowers and wildlife. There is so much to see and do in Austin. This is a collection of some of our favourites.
Extract Company => If you have ever baked using vanilla extract,
you have probably used Adams!
Adventures in Crime & Space => Austin's Science Fiction and Mystery Bookstore!
Alamo Drafthouse => Great group of theatres that has grown from a second-run theatre to many theatres with first and second run films. They serve great food and drinks too (including beer, hence the name). And don't forget to take in UT Football games there.
Amy's Ice Cream => Texas premium ice cream. Great stores, great employees and sugar-free yogurt for John! What more could you want in an ice cream chain?
Austin 360 => Austin's page of where to go and what to do in Austin!
Austin Berstrom International Airport => The new airport is nice and has plenty of Austin food and music to show it's guests.
The Austin Chronicle => Keep up to date with the music scene!
Austin City Connections => Access to city resources and departments!
Austin City Limits =>All about the show and guests!
Austin City Search => Find anything in Austin here, with maps and nearby attractions too!
Austin Ice Bats =>Austin's hockey team!
Austin Motel =>South Congress's unique motel! It's worth checking in, if you can!
Austin Public Library => Austin has a great Public Library system.
Austin Theatre Alliance =>The Paramount Theatre and the State Theatre are great places to see movies, plays, musicals, etc...check it out!
BlueBell Ice Cream => Great tasting Texas Ice Cream that even comes in several flavors of "no/low fat, no sugar added" which is important to us now that John is diabetic!
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum => If you don't know anything about Texas history, this is the place to visit. If you do, you should still check it out!
Book People => Largest bookstore in Texas!
Capital Metro => How to get around Austin!
Central Market => This is one of our favorite places to browse, not just a regular market!
Chuy's => One of the many great blends of good food and excellent service that Austin has to offer. Ultimate Tex-Mex!
Dell Computer =>This computer company is one of the giants!
Dragon's Lair =>The best game shop in Austin!
Freedom Records => This is an independent record label based in Austin!
Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce => Helping Austin make a better community!
H-E-B => This is a Texas SUPERmarket and has a lot to offer!
Half Price Books => Just what the name suggests, cheap and a fun place to read too!
KASE 101 =>Austin's New Country Station!
Literacy Austin => A very worthwhile organization. John and I were volunteers.
Lonestar Rollergirls => Great entertainment, great athletes. This is a fun way to spend a Sunday evening in Austin.
Magnolia Cafe => Another great Austin eatery. These guys have a sign in their window stating, "Sorry, we are open" but they have nothing to apologize for.
MusicTexas.com => Music and Arts from Austin, Texas!
Stubb's Bar-B-Q => These guys have a great restaurant, great shows and they also sell the BBQ sauce!
Texas Roller Girls => John took in a bout and has become a big fan.
The University of Texas at Austin =>one of the largest University's in the country!
Whole Foods Market =>This market has mostly natural and organic foods and it's very interesting to visit!
