NOTICE: Alas, Lulu no longer
allows the sale of data CDs, so the Phasic Cyaborg Edition has been phased
out for now. Once I find a suitable vendor for this sort of thing, I'll
make it available again.
Here's a complete rundown on the Phasic Cyaborg Edition
CD. It's a lot of strange stuff, the star of which is the Phasic
Cyaborg Edition PDF itself, packed with audio clips and text annotations
(more than a hundred clicky-things to click on within the file,
including more than 50 minutes of commentary). There are six main folders:
- Phasic Cyaborg Edition contains
the main event: The master annotated PDF and related files, including a
separate mp3 archive for when you don't have Acrobat Reader handy but still
need to hear Cody, Dave and I behaving like idiots.
- God City Arcana contains most of
the production files used to create the game. This includes early draft
versions, full-resolution scans of the art (including the map in full color,
where "full color" means "purple ballpoint ink") ...
even things like the Excel spreadsheets used to make the tables (be amused
by the phantom columns of math you don't see in the final game).
- Hobling Junkyard is packed with
odd support and promo items like EC wallpapers, EC desktop icons, blank
hexmaps in EC style, the "Vanthian Ragnarok" and "Phasic
Dingbats" TrueType fonts, and things even more miscellaneous
than that. A strange place to rummage, but very very EC.
- Make Your Own Prop Booklet and
Make Your Own Vanth Map folders are
each dedicated to hobby-craft projects re-creating steps I took when making
Encounter Critical. The "make your own prop booklet"
project includes the original, imposed raster-master I made the booklet
out of: just print, fold, staple, and mutilate. Instructions included,
even for the mutilation part (find out how to get rust-proof modern staples
to leave scannable rust shadows).
- Coffers of the Slaver King does
for Treasures of a Slaver's Kingdom what the rest
of the disc does for the game it's based on, with a complete archive of
every version of the game (including Alpha and Beta versions), the uncensored
source code for each, the core design documents (the design spreadsheet
is pretty spiffy if I do say so), outtakes and alternates (including
an alternate CogniKing history so groovy I'm not sure why I rejected it),
master graphics files and more.
That's the general; scroll down for a complete list of the specific!
